Singapore Tuition Grant: What To Do Once You Finished Your Bond Serving Period?

2025-09-06

TLDR: Despite updating employment status, the tuition grant portal doesn't actively keep track of your bond service and does not discharge you automatically, use the TG Enquiry Form to prompt them about status update and discharge once you complete your bond

Background

I completed my undergraduate study in NTU in year 2021 and have been working in Singapore for the past 4 years to fulfill my tuition grant service bond. However, once my third year of working completed, there were no notifications from MOE to indicated that the required bond has been served and I would be released from it. By default, I assumed that my service has been tracked and I would be released automatically.

Just last week, some of my juniors asked me about this process again but they weren't very happy with my assumption above, so I took some investigation on my side. Turn out, the portal didn't reflect my bond serving length at all and I had to enquiry MOE to get my service bond discharged. The steps to do so will be shown below.

Update Your First Employment Status

Firstly, if you are just graduated or changing job within the 3 years bond serving period, do make sure your employment record is updated using the tuition grant portal. You may find this update application form under Program tab on the navigation bar once you log in.

Submit Request on Tuition Grant Bond Discharge

You would need to refer your Tuition Grant application ID and Employment ID to the officer to make the process more efficient. These IDs can be access by logging onto the tuition grant portal. If your application has already been submitted before, they will show up as cards on the main page after you log onto the portal like below:

Once you have noted down these information, create an enquiry to MOE via the following form. Fill in the necessary information and tick "Bond Discharge/ Clearance Email" as the topic of your enquiry. Lastly, do put the above IDs to help the officer cross check your record faster.

If successfully discharged, you will receive an email like below after a few days, confirming your release from the duty. Discharge Email for Tuition Grant

That's all. Good luck with your journey ahead after completing the bond!
